NEED “HELP”?
HIRE A HELP INTERN OR GRADUATE FROM HELP’s OFFICE OF CAREER SERVICES!
About Us…
HELP’s Office of Career Services (OCS) gives HELP students opportunities to practice what they learn at university in a professional environment while providing employers with high-quality interns and a pool of potential employees.
Field of Study
Almost every field of study is represented among HELP students and graduates, from accounting and agronomy, to finance, management, and IT, to engineering, nursing, economics, communications, architecture, law, education, psychology, and political science. Whatever your needs we likely have a student or graduate for you.
How We Work
HELP’s Career Services Office operates like an employment agency, managing the relationship between candidates and employers. We share job descriptions with relevant candidates, screen applicants, and present the employer with the most qualified profiles. Employers pay interns’ salaries directly to HELP. HELP transfers the salary to the student, minus a 10% contribution from the student to HELP. Details of this in the KOREM paragraph below.
For placement in part-time for full-time employment, HELP charges a one-time placement fee, equivalent to the first month’s salary. HELP waives placement fees for employers who contribute $5,000 or more to HELP over a 12-month period.
KOREM
In cases of part-time or full-time employment, most HELP graduates are subject to a contractual agreement whereby they contribute 10% of their income to HELP for the first 8 years on the labor market, using the opportunity donors provided them to provide similar opportunities for current HELP students. These contributions, called KOREM (Kontribisyon Regilye pou Edikasyon ka Miltipliye), totaled over $70,000 in HELP’s fiscal year 2024, enough to sponsor seven additional students! Lifetime KOREM contributions now total almost $400,000.
HELP invites employers to participate in the KOREM program in several ways, including:
- providing a salary premium (up to 10%) to assist graduates in meeting their KOREM obligations,
- creating a pre-tax payroll deduction for KOREM participants,
- adding a clause in the employment contract recognizing the employee’s obligations under KOREM, and assisting HELP with follow up when appropriate.
What Employers Say:
Employers have been very satisfied with HELP interns and graduates, some even going so far as to donate to HELP and/or to write to us.
"The HELP students and graduates who have come to work for Lakou Kajou are engaged self-starters whose professionalism elevates our work. They have a set of skills that go beyond content knowledge: curiosity, problem-solving, autonomy, and a drive to excel. We watch with pride and awe as these young people ask the right questions, provide wise perspective, and seek opportunities for growth."
Blue Butterfly
"Since the beginning of our collaboration in 2018 when we first hired your graduates as interns at Acceso, we were impressed with their professional skills, contagious optimism, and ability to adapt to the changing environment of a busy social enterprise. Their varied knowledge on social, economic, and political subjects further enhanced their contribution to Acceso’s mission."
ACCESO (Currently employs 8 HELP graduates)
"HELP ensures soft skills; being on time, assuming responsibilities, taking ownership, dressing professionally, working with people of different culture, customer service skills, follow through that can make a huge difference."
Digicel Foundation
"SOIL has had over 10 HELP students or graduates work with us as interns or in staff positions. Collectively they have helped to transform lives through a wide range of research and managerial roles in our Sales, Operations and IT departments. We currently employ three HELP graduates and they are basically running the show. The combination of professionalism, respect for communities and passionate dedication to social change that we have witnessed in HELP graduates is a testament to the program’s commitment to their core values of respect, rigor and service; transformative values which are becoming increasingly critical in a changing world."
SOIL
HELP interns are available to work full-time during their Christmas and summer holidays. To assure academic success, intern hours are limited to 10 hours per week when school is in session.
